How about importing product variants directly? (product.product)

The issue is I have already assigned external id to all the products (those who don't have variants). But when I do export from Product variants form all the products( without variants) doesn't come up with External id which I assigned them. Yes but If I do export from Product (product.template) then their external id comes up properly. So how to solve this ?
