Hi Jordi,

This put away strategy is interesting indeed. May I ask why not having a location tree down to the bin (not the shelves), then you don't need raw, rack and case per product - location.

Something like:

WH/Stock
WH/Stock/Raw A
WH/Stock/Raw A/Shelf 1/
WH/Stock/Raw A/Shelf 1/Case 001
WH/Stock/Raw A/Shelf 1/Case 002
WH/Stock/Raw A/Shelf 1/Case 003
...
WH/Stock/Raw B
...

What I like with your idea is that the location tree do not become too big and "ugly", but what I like with location down to the bin is that you know where your product are very precisely.

In my mind, or you use simple location with raw, rack, case from product form, or if more complex logistics, then you'll go for having a precise location tree (and not using the raw, rack, case).

What do you think ?

Regards,

Joël

Thanks Ray,

For my use case I think that it makes more sense to use the Put Away Strategies.

When you receive a product, the put away strategy will allow to determine the appropriate destination location of the product.

The default put away strategy "Fixed Location" will allow to define a fixed location based on the category of the product, but new strategies can be flexibly defined.

I found a very interesting Put Away Strategy:

Supposed this Warehouse Structure:
WH/Stock
WH/Stock/Shelf 1
WH/Stock/Shelf 2

You define WH/Stock to have putaway strategy = "Last Bin Putaway Strategy".

You define initial stock of "Component 1" into WH/Stock/Shelf 2 (Using Inventory Adjustments)

When you create a Receipt to "Stock" for Component 1, Odoo will propose to Put it to "WH/Stock/Shelf 2".

You may choose to receive it into "WH/Stock/Shelf 1".

When you do a new Receipt to "Stock" for Component 1, Odoo will propose to Put it to "WH/Stock/Shelf 1".

Therefore this strategy will automatically define the destination location, based on the last location that the product was placed. This means that if the company stores the products in a fixed bin, when you receive a product and indicate location "Stock", if this "Stock" location has Putaway Strategy = "Last Bin Putaway Strategy", it will propose to place it in the location where it was last placed.

@Jon - it depends on the requirements, but here is how it works:

You can review the logic with the demo database:

Given a set of locations:

The product is in stock with a quantity of 8 in a specific location:

Sell 18 units, requiring 10 more to be ordered (give this product a Vendor and set it to ‘Buy’):

On the Receipt, split the lines (MANUALLY) according to what fits in a given location:

On the Delivery Order, Odoo auto splits the lines (AUTOMATICALLY) based on where the 18 are stored:

It would be nice if minimum stock rules set the "TO" location on the Receipt automatically.

You can use the Product's 'DESCRIPTION FOR PICKINGS' to store the Primary and Overflow location for each product and customize the Picking Slip, adding that information for users to see.

Hi Ray

Would this automatically handle the implementation of a prime location and multiple replenishment locations? Could you please go into a little more detail.

Thank you

Check out the way locations and 'put in pack have been improved in v9.

Users can receive items into, say three locations, with one location needing two packs to store the goods.

Odoo will then split outgoing Delivery Orders into lines representing quantity by "location and pack" to help users be directed to where items need to be taken from (multiple locations and packs) to meet the demand.

A good logical separation between a location (mostly fixed capacity) and a pack (mostly variable capacity) should allow you to meet these use cases.

Subject: Location-specific product data

Dear logistics experts,

We have a recurring requirement across multiple customers to have product attributes that are specific to a location / warehouse, such as coordinates of where the product is to be found in a location.

For instance, the attributes rack, row, case, found until v8 would provide valuable information of the physical coordinates of a product within a warehouse, but this data was maintained at a global product level, not location or warehouse specific.

We've been looking for existing modules, but found nothing at all. Have you come across this requirement?

Our plan is to add this capability, establishing a link between product and location. A module such as "product_location_coordinate" could add coordinates of the product within the location, such as Rack, Row, Case.

The product coordinates within a location would be visible in stock moves and in physical inventories, so that the warehouse personnel can have more detailed information on where the look for a product within the warehouse.

Regards,
